Courage & Ancestry

We are now starting to wane! Time to release what was revealed during the full moon.

I was able to attend a local sound bath and had an amazing experience. The sounds of the drums and bowls, transported me to El Salvador, where my parents are from. As a Latina, I knew my ancestry was mixed but I wasn’t sure exactly with what. Luckily my sister

did a DNA test a few years ago and found out we are 60% indigenous (Aztec & Mayan tribes) 30% European (Portugal & Spain) and 10% African. As I meditated and thought of my ancestors, I imagined indigenous warriors ready to defend their people. European conquistadors braving the ocean to explore land that was new to them.   African slaves being brought against their will to a new land and summoning bravery anyway. I thought of more recent ancestors like my grandma and great grandma who lived away from the big cities in El Salvador, barely having enough to meet the basic needs of their children. I imagined them traveling on foot to the city in a time of war to sell tamales and pupusas in order to provide. Curing their children’s illnesses with herbs from the land. I thought of my mother with a toddler who decided her daughters would have more opportunities in the United States. She made the trek over here and dived right in learning a brand new language, culture, getting a job as a CNA, and then buying a house. HOW BRAVE. I come from some courageous people.

I’ve suffered from anxiety since I was a teen. And the biggest message I received was let go of your fear & avoidance! I come from such capable strong people, why should I not possess that same bravery?

I realize that the last few weeks I’ve really been avoiding anything that pushes me past my comfort zone. I briefly mentioned in the beginning of January I had been working on exposure therapy. It’s time for me to delve back into that and face my fears. I need to find a balance between work and play.

What about you? Are there things that you have been avoiding? Ask yourself what life would look like if you could find the courage to confront your fears. Would it be better?

I know it’s difficult. I found courage by looking into my bloodline. I’ve downloaded Mesoamericano literature to continue to delve into my roots. It may be helpful for you to take a look at your roots as well. What fears can you let go of?
